Nortek Resource Solutions was established in 1999 to provide consulting services to the forest sector.
Nortek’s founder, Kirk Schmidt, realized the niche of aerial photography through his University education in Forest and Natural Resource Management. As a Registered Professional Forester in Nova Scotia, Kirk has applied his skills including research coordination, project management, spatial analysis, remote sensing, aerial photography and a thorough understanding of GIS using a range of software.
Nortek has developed and refined an aerial camera system for acquiring cost effective imagery for spatial database updating. The system has since been used in a variety of applications which include pipeline right of way mapping, mapping forest harvest operations, developing forest inventories, estimating biomass loadings and studying river complexes. Aerial photography has also been obtained for asset documentation of infrastructure including wharfs, harbours and commercial real estate developments.
Nortek has worked with industrial resource managers throughout central and eastern Canada in a wide range of GIS and aerial photography projects ranging from basic image acquisition to complex data interpretation from Image or Lidar based point clouds.
